Chicago Summer Round-Up (Part 1)

This weekend kicks-off the unofficial start of Summer! Although you can't tell by the weather we've been having lately, Summer is on its way.  Below is C-Style's Top 10 Things To Do between May 24 - July 4th. We'll be back the first full week of July with Part 2 to take you into the Labor Day Weekend.



1. Chicago Beaches - It's opening weekend for Chicago Beaches. The 2015 beach season runs from Friday, May 22 to Monday, September 7th. Swimming is permitted when lifeguards are on duty from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. (subject to weather and health warnings).

Chicago lifeguards will be outfitted in style thanks to the gracious support of the Tommy Bahama company!

2. ROOF Sundays at theWIT - The party that made ROOF the #1 Day Club in the country (Nightclub&Bar,2013) returns Sunday, May 24th with Manufactured Superstars, the electronic dance music DJ/production duo from Denver, Colorado consisting of Bradley Roulier and Shawn Sabo. Spinning some of their hits, Manufactured Superstars will kick off a season of fantastically colorful Sundays, catering to Chicago’s young-at-heart.

Tuning into one of this season’s hottest fashion trends – nautical – this year’s ultimate day party is the perfect summer escape for those looking for an upscale, escapist experience. Themed “Sail Away,” ROOF Sundays will feature a dynamic entertainment line-up filled with live musicians, vocal artists, dancers and national EDM DJs every Sunday from May 24 – September 6. Expect to see staff sporting the easy, breezy nautical trend for Spring and Summer that evokes a relaxed warm weather style.

Known for featuring world renowned DJs, this year ROOF Sundays will also be showcasing live musicians including Katarina Veskovic on the electric violin.

Along with some of the top DJs in the country, guests at ROOF Sundays will enjoy a specialty menu with items like tempura lobster roll, seafood tower, and fresh handmade flatbreads and dips to share from our wood-burning oven.

Pastry chef Toni Roberts presents new summertime treats including:

  • Macaron Flights: Root Beer Float, Mandarin Creamcicle, Blueberry Crumble, Strawberry Shortcake, Key Lime Pie and Peach Mojito
  • Matcha mint chip ice cream sandwiches
  • Salted chocolate chip cookies baked to order in our hearth oven and served with vanilla bean spread
  • Chocolate Bites: Cookies and cream bark, macadamia coconut nougat, fudge frosting truffle pop

3. iRock Jazz Festival - May 29th - May 30th - New Buffalo, MI

4. Chicago Gospel Fest - May 29th - 31st at Millennium Park (Chicago)

The Chicago Gospel Fest returns for its annual weekend of soul-stirring music at Chicago's Millennium Park! Join gospel greats Rev. Marvin Sapp, Israel Houghton, Donald Lawrence and others for a hand-clapping good time. Gospel Fest is free to the public.




5. Jody Watley featuring Shalamar Reloaded - May 30th - The Shrine Chicago.

Chicago's own R&B Diva, Jody Watley, performs at The Shrine Chicago for one night only. Watley, who shot to fame - first as a member of Shalamar - then as a solo artist - returns to her hometown to show some love. In addition to Watley, guests will be introduced to Shalamar Reloaded. The new trio features Watley and two males ready to take Shalamar to the next level.

6. Hyde Park Brew Fest - June 6 & 7th - Hyde Park, Chicago

Join the Hyde Park Chamber of Commerce and Kimbark Beverage Shoppe for 2 days of tasty brews!

The Hyde Park Brew Fest is Hyde Park's newest annual festival. Moved to coincide with the 57th Street Art Fair and expanded to two days the HP Brew Fest will be Hyde Park's premier summer event.
Come and enjoy music, food, and draft beer from 12p-8p at 55th and Kenwood.  
The heart of the event is the craft beer sampling from 1pm-5pm both days.  Come sample beer and cider from over 30 different breweries.
Pre Purchased Tickets are $35 until May 10th and $45 after.  Tickets include 20 4oz samples and a souvenir glass. Tickets are limited.

7. Chicago Blues Festival - June 12 - 14th at Grant Park

Although the King of the Blues (B.B. King) has passed on, the blues goes on! The Chicago Blues Festival kicks-off in Grant Park on June 12th with a stellar line-up of musicians including Clarence Carter, Syl Johnson, John Primer and Studebaker John's Maxwell Street Kings.

8.  Taste of Randolph - June 19 - 21st

The Taste of Randolph kicks-off the first weekend of official summer with multiple acts, food and drinks and after-parties! No need to wait for Lolla to get to town. 9. Techweek Chicago - June 22 - 28th - Merchandise Mart

10. Chosen Few Picnic - 25th Anniversary Edition - July 2-4th

As the nation celebrates its independence, the Chosen Few DJs will again host the Chosen Few Picnic Weekend, a house music festival celebrating Chicago’s homegrown dance genre, July 2-5, 2015. The signature event of the weekend is the 25th annual Chosen Few Old School Reunion Picnic on Saturday, July 4, 2015 in Jackson Park, 63rd and Hayes Drive, Chicago. What started as a small reunion of a few friends from the early days of house music has grown into one of the largest house music festival events in the world, drawing more than 45,000 dance music fans each year!
Nicknamed the “Woodstock of House Music” for its family reunion vibe, the daylong event is expected to draw more than 40,000 fans to celebrate the roots of house music.
For the 25th anniversary, the Chosen Few Picnic features performances from Stephanie Mills,Evelyn “Champagne” King and Cory Daye, plus guest DJs Masters At Work duo Louie Vega and Kenny Dope Gonzalez, Derrick CarterStan ZeffKeith Fobs and Greg Gray. A surprise guest performance also is planned.
Picnic entertainment also includes sets by the Chosen Few DJs: Wayne Williams, Jesse Saunders, Tony Hatchett, Alan King, Andre Hatchett, Terry Hunter and Mike Dunn. CFP25 festivities also comprise nightly parties and other events throughout the holiday weekend, including a lunchtime dance party at Daley Plaza on Wednesday, July 1.
The Loews Chicago O’Hare will serve as the official hotel of CFP25, offering exclusive rates and amenities for festival guests. General admission tickets and VIP packages go on sale in April via the group’s web site.
