July 16th, Chicago's own Elizabeth Mickiewicz of drumBar won the Angostura U.S. Cocktail Challenge. The competition was held at the House of Blues in New Orleans during this year's Tales of the Cocktail.
During the regional competition held at Chicago's Lost Lake, Elizabeth knocked out fierce competitors Nicole Barker, Meagan Schmoll and John Sugent with her mixology skills.
In New Orleans, she went head-to-head with Aaron Butler from L'Artusi in New York and Harry Chin of Cana Rum Bar in Los Angeles, to bring home first prize of $5,000 and a trip to Trinidad to compete in the 2016 Angostura Global Cocktail Challenge next winter.
Below is Elizabeth's winning cocktail recipes - The Lost Days and Trinidad Cobbler - made with Angostura Bitters, of course! We think you'll enjoy them and if you're ever in Chicago, make sure to stop by drumBar and give Elizabeth a fist bump!
