Foodie Fridays: Chicago's Best Foodie Events and Openings


The 13th Annual Chicago Travel and Adventure Show returns this weekend (January 21-22) to the Donald E. Stephens Convention Center (Rosemont, IL).  Travel enthusiasts have the opportunity to meet face-to-face with experts from around-the-world to help plan their next adventure!  Headling the show this year is Rick Steves (Host of Rick Steves Europe) Samantha Brown (Travel Channel Network) Peter Greenberg (CBS News Travel Editor) and Pauline Frommer (Frommer Travel Guides).

Guests will have access to the Savvy Traveler Theater, Destination Theater and the Taste of Travel Theater featuring cooking demos and tastings by top chefs including, "Famous Danny" the pitmaster for Famous Dave's restaurants and the wildly popular Culinary Fight Club will pit chefs against one another in a battle to the finish.  Additionally, Lagunitas Brewing will host a tasting of their latest brews.

Kick-off Chicago Restaurant Week with First Bites Bash, Thursday, January 26th, at Navy Pier. Produced by Choose Chicago, Sarah Grueneberg, Chef/Partner of Monteverde Restaurant & Pastificio, will host this year's event, from which a portion of the proceeds will benefit the Greater Chicago Food Depository.


Guests will enjoy savory and sweet tastings from over 60 of Chicago's most celebrated chefs and restaurants. Plus, toast to the city's culinary scene with beer, wine and spirits.

Chicago Restaurant Week (CRW) 2017, also produced by Choose Chicago, returns on Friday, January 27 through Thursday, February 9 for its 10th anniversary with more than 350 participating restaurants. 
Reservations for the annual 14-day culinary celebration are now open at eatitupchicago.com, featuring menus for participating restaurants throughout the Chicago area, including 66 new participating restaurants. 
Also new this year, brunch menus will be offered at some CRW restaurants. Prix fixe menus for brunch and lunch will be available for $22 and dinner menus for $33 and/or $44 (excluding beverages, tax and gratuity).

Saturday, January 14th, Nando's PERi-PERi Chicken opened its doors in Hyde Park with a Standing Room Only benefit for neighboring Kenwood Academy.  The world-famous restaurant originating from South Africa not only provides delicious, healthy cuisine, but displays some of the most unqiue artwork around. The Hyde Park location features a corrugated-metal mural that was hand-painted By South African street artist, Kilmany-Jo Liversage.


In addition to hosting a day for the Kenwood Academy, University of Chicago students, faculty and staff were also treated to a day of free meals the following Tuesday!
